About School Organiser
All group sessions are taught by QTLS Teachers/Tutors in Maths & English and Level 2/3 teaching assistants & learning mentors. Our team work with pupils on a one-to-one basis as well as in small group, supporting pupils academic needs and tailoring learning styles to suit pupil’s individual needs. We assess the pupil on the first meeting to find out what level they are currently working at (real time) in Maths and English. We plan and organise an assessment outcome from the assessment and put together an individual learning plan (IEP) for each pupil. We work through the assessment outcomes during each session. We re-assess every 4-6 weeks to monitor progress and to check that learning has taken place.
- Topic tests are completed weekly by the pupils.
Homework is provided after each session and marked at the start of the next session with feedback to the pupil.
- What went well.
- Even better if…
- Areas of development.
During the sessions in English, we focus on teaching structure (PEEEL) as well as identifying and embedding literary and structural devices. Developing pupils written communication and understanding of each text from a contextual perspective, whilst improving their spelling punctuation and grammar (SPAG). Develop speaking and listening skills through discussions and pupils presenting their work back to the teacher to check that learning has taken place. Our approach helps each pupil to apply themselves confidently when approaching assessment/exam style (Mocks) questions.
In Maths we focus on topics and methods that each individual student needs to focus on from their individual assessment outcome. This enables the pupil to improve their mathematical understanding and be able to apply themselves confidently when approaching assessment/exam style (Mocks) questions.
Social/Emotional:
Pupils with additional needs have the option to work on a creative project (Vision Board) alongside their Maths and English, as this gives them the opportunity to discuss any concerns/worries they may have about school, academic ability and/or insecurities they may have that is affecting their learning process. The creative project allows pupils to focus on their wants, hopes, dreams and to identify and understand their own inner emotions (positive and negative thoughts and feelings). This is a very helpful tool to help pupils to understand their own learning progress and how to work towards their final exam results with confidence, as well as prepare pupils for further education (College) or workplace environments. As well as supporting pupils to understand what healthy choices are, whether that is based around school, friendships, relationships, further education & career choices. This information is recorded in their weekly report.
Communication:
Telephone, email and face to face contact with schools (designated staff member) daily and weekly. Our consistent and loyal support is continued to support each pupil until their final GCSE exam and/or their reintegration into a new school setting.
